When I first found the Puray’s line of skin hydration detectors, I thought it was a fabulous, innovative beauty tool which had been thoughtfully crafted. Not just to lend a helping hand to cosmetic brands by demonstrating the effectiveness of their products to consumers, but it was also a really useful addition to the everyday beauty enthusiast’s collection. As a doctor, I wanted to find out more on how Puray’s Pure Spray product worked and if I would recommend it.
Speaking with Puray’s R&D team, I learned it uses the Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) method to measure the skin’s moisture levels over a period of time, with immediate results viewable on a smartphone.
Q. As a medical professional how would you describe how BIA works on skin?

I found it works by passing a small unnoticeable electric current through the body via electrodes (in this case, the sensor on the Pure Spray hydration meter), which measure the approximate time taken for the current to travel from the electrodes, through multiple types of body tissue with varying levels of conductivity (in this case, the skin) and back to the electrodes. The current’s travel time is mostly hinged on the degree of resistance to flow. The smaller the resistance, the faster the flow of current. Body fluids tend to be one of the least resistant molecules, meaning the current travels relatively faster. Hence, the shorter the time taken by the current to and fro the electrodes, the more hydrated your skin is estimated to be. The measurement of the electric current’s travel time is what provides an estimate of the hydration levels of the skin.
Q. Aside from being a doctor, you are a beauty aficionado. What would you use Puray for?

The way I see it, Pure Spray is set to be an invaluable tool for cosmetic brands and consumers alike. Being able to gauge your skin’s level of hydration using BIA- which is not just quick, but also boasts a high safety profile – will invariably improve the general health of your skin overtime.
With an overwhelming amounts of skincare products on the market today, it is not difficult to see how consumers or cosmetics enthusiasts like myself, in the process of trying to find products that actually work, are drowning in endless partially used bottles and jars of product that has promised perfect skin but ended up in disappointment.
Q. You mentioned you try a lot of products before finding ones that work. What is most frustrating about this & how can Puray help?

Coupled with poor results, refunds on products are slim and hard to come by – at least in my native UK. Aside from its medical benefits, Pure Spray is also financially helpful. I t literally takes seconds to gauge how well that new moisturizer you just splurged on is working for you, rather than having to wait 1-2 weeks or in some cases 6-8 weeks as is recommended by some dermatologists and skincare experts. From personal experience, I can see how this would save tons of time and money.
